Our CSA members receive a share of produce for a certain number of weeks and the share option they choose.
Philosophy of our CSA
Community Supported Agriculture is part of a larger movement across the country to connect local farmers with their communities. It is a special relationship. Community members commit to buying shares from Spaces of Opportunity for the season, and in exchange Spaces of Opportunity uses that commitment to grow the most nutritious and fresh produce. Every share represents the work and attention to detail of many people to seed, transplant, weed, grow, harvest, prepare and deliver to our members.
Spaces of Opportunity Responsibilities
The Spaces of Opportunity staff & volunteers work dutifully and in good faith to bring you the freshest produce possible. Currently, the Orchard Community Learning Center (OCLC) is the fiscal agent for the Spaces of Opportunity CSA and financial transactions will handled through the OCLC.
To receive the freshest produce possible from Spaces of Opportunity it is important that members pick up their share on the scheduled day and time.
Forgotten/Not Picked Up Shares
Shares that are not picked up will be donated the following day, unless members let us know and receive confirmation to pick up at another location. If you need to cancel after the hold deadline (see below), you can have an organization or individual pick up your share or ask that Spaces of Opportunity identify a family to receive the share as a donation.
You can place a hold on your share via your member dashboard or contact the CSA coordinator via email or phone Tuesday before your scheduled delivery date.
We encourage members to let a friend or colleague pick-up their share or donate, since it is a great way to share the CSA experience. Donations can also be requested via the member dashboard or contact the CSA coordinator.
Refunds and Cancellations
When signing up as a member of the CSA, you are buying a share in the farm for the season. We will do our very best to address any concerns with your share. In most cases, we can work with members so their experience is a great one. We appreciate your comments and suggestions to help make our CSA the best it can be!
You are free to cancel your subscription at any time. Currently, the Orchard Community Learning Center is the financial agent for Spaces of Opportunity and will refund your original method of payment with the dollar amount of deliveries not received.
One aspect of a CSA is that members support the Spaces of Opportunity farm to table operation. To do so, you share in the risks of agriculture (poor weather, drought, disease, frost, crop failure and so on) and rewards (the bounty from a good season). Spaces of Opportunity purposefully plans for such contingencies and uses growing techniques that protect the harvest, minimize risk to members and optimize the rewards: growing a wide variety of crops, cover copping, crop rotation, partnering with other local farms, and irrigation. In the extremely unlikely event that severe weather, disease/insect damage, or other natural disaster results in a level of crop destruction that prevents the farm from continuing its weekly distributions, the Spaces of Opportunity staff will notify you immediately via e-mail and will communicate via e-mail frequently so that you are aware of the situation. Members assume the risk should Spaces of Opportunity be unable to provide a portion of the shares due to any inherent risk of farming.
